What is Michindoh's LIT Program?

Are you ready for an experience of a lifetime? Michindoh’s Leadership in Training (LIT) program is designed to combine the best elements of camp in order to develop leadership potential and encourage personal growth. Within the program, we have two divisions divided by age group. We have Program LITs (age 14-17) and we have Counselor LITs (age 16-17). In both divisions, we combine adventure activities, mentoring, educational training, and hands-on experience as we follow Jesus’ footsteps and understand how He demonstrated true leadership. What else could we possibly add to the program? Well, in addition to a Summer Camp Blast and personal, professional, and spiritual growth, we will offer a paycheck! That’s right, you don’t have to pay for this amazing experience but actually, we pay you. Sounds too good to be true? For more information, continue scrolling

In essence, our LIT program is a step between camper and staff with elements of both included in what the LIT program is. LITs will enjoy the activities, games, challenges, and special events tailored specifically to their specific age group.  The camper life is a blast at Michindoh and we make sure to include all the fun elements in our programming that make Michindoh great. In addition, LITs also serve alongside our staff, helping to ensure our Summer Camp is the best that it can be. Our goal is to match each LIT's position with their passion, creating a one-of-a-kind experience for them that they can't find anywhere else. LITs stay at Michindoh during each camp week (Sunday -Friday) and are able to return home for the weekend. Accommodations can also be made for LITs to stay the weekend.

This program offers more than just a great time, it also provides valuable work experience which can be used to polish an attractive resume.  Michindoh's LIT program is built on four foundations: Intentional mentoring, practical skills, discovering potential through adventure and learning by experience.

Each year, we hire two amazing LIT directors to oversee our LIT program. This male and female team are phenomenal leaders who have proven their abilities as past Summer Camp Counselors and are considered All-Stars of our staff. Every LIT will meet weekly with the LIT director of their gender to speak and hear from someone who walks life’s path ahead of them.

"Let the wise hear and increase in learning, and the one who understands obtain guidance," (Proverbs 1:5)

To embark on an adventure is to discover one’s limits and take one step past them. At least, that is what we believe. In confronting outside circumstances, what is unknown becomes known and what is uncomfortable becomes comfortable. If you're willing to take one step past your comfort zone, and then another, and another, you will discover you are capable of things beyond what you ever imagined. At Michindoh, we meet each LIT where they’re and walk with them, one step at a time.

"...I came that they may have life and have it abundantly." - Jesus  (Mark 10:10b)

At Michindoh, we don’t just teach leadership, we do leadership. We believe the best way to learn is through experience and so we give our LITs consistent opportunities to try out different leadership styles in a variety of different contexts. Our goal isn’t to toss LIT”s in the deep end and hope they swim. But we walk with them through the swallows, equipping them with life jackets as we walk the journey beside them. Sometimes, greater than succeeding, is learning.

"And [Jesus] called the twelve and began to send them out two by two" (Mark 6:7)

Everything we teach is meant to go beyond Michindoh. We understand that most people won’t live at camp forever and so our focus is to develop people for whatever lies down the road. No matter where you end up, the skills learned in our LIT program will serve you well. Critical thinking, Problem-solving, Life Management, Effective Communication, Conflict Resolution, are just a few of the many skills LIT’s will learn at Michindoh.

"Do you see a man skillful in his work? He will stand before kings; he will not stand before obscure men." Proverbs 22:29

LIT 2022 Information:

We are excited to announce the LIT program for Summer 2022 will have two different divisions. This will allow our program to better suit the skills and abilities of our participants. These two divisions are 1) Program LIts and 2) Counselor LITs. For more information about each division see down below.

Age: Ages 14-17

Michindoh's LIT program is designed for teens between the age of 14-17. Specifically,  Program LITs can be between the age of 14-17 & Counselor LITs must be between the age of 16-17.

Dates: Sunday, June 12th to Sunday, July 31st

Michindoh's LIT program is 7 weeks long. However, LITs are allowed to take time off during the program to accommodate family requests. Any dates away from the program must be communicated to Michindoh before June 12th. If space within Michindoh's LIT program is limited, priority will be given to those who are more available to do the program.

Pay: $875

The value of our LIT program is about $300 dollars per week. However, because we are so passionate about young people growing closer to God and developing leadership skills, we have subsidized the cost of the program. This means that the program is free for participants. However, if any of the LITs would like to receive payment for the program then, we have created an avenue for this as well. Any LIT can fundraise $400 dollars as a program fee and then Michindoh will pay the participant $875 throughout the program.

Program LIT Schedule

Program LITs will have their day broken up into three components. Guest Services work, Leadership Training Sessions, and Camp Programming. Working to help support Guest Services will give LITs valuable work experience and help develop important skills for future employment. Leadership Sessions will be a mixture of activities and lessons designed to help LITs think practically about Christian Leadership and will be centered on deepening one's faith in Christ. Camp Programming will be a mixture of helping out with traditional summer camp activities and LIT-specific programming.
